Admit it–you’re curious about e-hookahs. It’s hard to blame you. Ever since “vaping” started becoming a thing, the concept of inhaling tar and tobacco-free (don’t call it) smoke has been on the minds of hookah smokers everywhere.
The problem, of course, is that up until recently, e-hookahs were a pale imitation of the real thing. Scratch that, they didn’t even come close to the sensation of smoking an actual hookah. Most e-hookahs back in the day were rebranded e-cigarettes with a little more flavor.
Jump to present day, and it’s a completely different story. Thanks to the invention of devices like the Square E-Head, enjoying a hookah session by way of e-liquid isn’t just close to the real thing–it practically is real thing since you’re using an actual hookah. And because of this, making the total switch to an electronic hookah is now a perfectly viable option for die-hard hookaholics.
Still not convinced that e-hookahs are the way to go? Well, here are the top ten reasons why you should reconsider your stance, and make the switch to e-hookahs today!
Oh, and if you don’t know what e-hookahs are, read this first and come back here when you’re done.
This biggest thing that separates most electronic smoking devices from their traditional counterparts is the fact that e-liquid doesn’t contain any tobacco or tar. This is true with e-cigarettes, and it’s equally true with e-hookahs.
It’s been proven time and time again that tobacco isn’t good for us. A quick Google search on the matter cites cancer, chronic bronchitis and heart disease as just a few of the adverse side-effects of smoking tobacco. The less you use it, the better.
That being said, we still aren’t completely sure that vaping is 100% safe and without consequences–there just hasn’t been enough research on the matter yet. Still, it’s hard to deny the fact that cutting out the tobacco and tar is still a step in the right direction.
Tobacco-free shisha alternatives have been around for quite a while–herbal shisha and vapor stones quickly come to mind. But since they don’t have tobacco, they’re also completely nicotine free, so making a hard switch to them is incredibly problematic for frequent hookah smokers.
This isn’t a problem with e-hookahs because they use e-liquid. Though most hookah pens are sold as nicotine free, rechargeable vaping devices and e-hookah bowls give you the option to fill them with whatever e-liquid you like. So if you need to include nicotine, you totally can.
Keep in mind that nicotine is a stimulant drug, and it’s incredibly addictive. If you aren’t addicted to nicotine, you still have the option to use nicotine-free e-liquid with your electronic hookahs, and it’ll probably be just as satisfying for you. Just remember to be smart about your decisions and always do your research.
Pro Tip: don’t overdo it on the nicotine! Too much of it and you’re going to get a harsh vape, which is exactly what hookah smokers don’t want. I personally add only a few drops of nicotine infused e-liquid into an already nicotine-free solution. It works great on this end.
Thanks to the requirement of burning charcoal, traditional hookahs emit carbon dioxide, which is an environmentally harmful gas. E-hookahs, on the other hand, don’t produce carbon dioxide. When you exhale e-liquid, you’re releasing what is essentially water vapor.
The reduction of waste also plays a big part here. With traditional hookahs, you have to throw away lots of plastic and aluminum foil. Since rechargeable e-hookahs are refillable, you’ll be tossing out far less, and as a result, reducing your environmental footprint.
If you’re a frequent hookah smoker, you know that it can be a pricey activity. Decent shisha usually costs $20 for 250 grams of the stuff, which equates to six or seven full hookah sessions. It’s easy to spend $80-$100 a week if you’re accustomed to smoking several bowls a day.
E-liquid, on the other hand, can be quite a bit cheaper. A 30ml bottle of Starbuzz branded e-juice costs $16.99 at Southsmoke (our favorite place to buy hookah related items), and this will last you quite a while. If you look around, you can buy e-liquid for even cheaper in bulk.
You also won’t have to worry about buying (and running out) of charcoal, since e-hookahs completely do away with that particular requirement. Make the switch, and you’ll never have to worry about those $20 boxes of coconut coals ever again.
Tell me if this sounds familiar–you’re about to load another bowl of hookah, only to discover that you’re completely out of shisha. There isn’t a smoke shop close by that sells the stuff, so you’ll have to order more online and wait for who knows how long before you can smoke again.
This isn’t a problem if you’re using an e-hookah. Here’s the thing: the e-liquid used for e-hookahs is exactly the same stuff people use for e-cigarettes. News flash–e-cigarettes and their respective fillings can be purchased at most gas stations and convenience stores. Need to get a quick e-hookah fix? 7-11 has got you covered!
I still recommend buying e-liquid online, though. It’s going to be much cheaper that way, and the selection is almost always far superior. But hey, the added convenience of buying e-hookah supplies pretty much anywhere isn’t something we’re going to complain about.
Frequent hookah smokers know all about gum swelling–it’s not fun for anyone. Same thing goes for teeth yellowing. It’s inconvenient, unhealthy, and pretty darn gross.
E-hookahs don’t use tobacco, so heed no worry of these problems once you make the switch. Again, we’re not completely sure of the overall health implications of vaping. But tobacco stained teeth? Nope, that’s a thing of the past.
Hot charcoals are really hot. Like, incredibly hot. Touch one, and you’ve got a burn that’s going to sting for days (if not weeks). Knock your hookah down, set your carpet on fire, burn your house down.
Okay, that’s a little extreme. But honestly, it’s a risk that’s very real for careless traditional hookah smokers. Even with this–if you smoke indoors (and treat charcoal with utmost care), then you still have to worry about smoke stained walls, curtains, furniture…you name it.
I don’t know about you, but fire hazards and smelly living rooms aren’t something I look forward to when I’m trying to relax with a hookah. E-liquid (and the vapor that it emits) removes the stress of fire and a nasty living space. No coals=no problems.
Setting up a hookah can be a real pain in the keyster, especially if you’re doing it somewhere that isn’t your own home. With devices like the Square E-Head and other electronic hookah bowls, the process is simplified way down. You won’t need worry about finding a place to light charcoal, nor will you have to prepare your shisha. With an e-hookah bowl, you just need to make sure that the device is charged and filled with your favorite e-liquid, and then you’re good to go.
And hey, if moving an entire hookah around isn’t something that you want to do, e-hookahs come in several portable variations. Though they’re not as good as using an e-hookah bowl, rechargeable e-hookah units like the Starbuzz E-Hose are still great options for hookah experiences on the go.
If you’re not willing to commit, then I guess you also have the option of using a disposable hookah pen. I don’t really recommend them to experienced hookah smokers–they’re probably the farthest away from the real thing as you can get–but for casual users, they’re a fairly decent alternative.
We’ve already covered most of this with number 3, but it’s such a big deal that it deserves its very own point. Traditional hookahs are messy, and e-hookahs just aren’t. Sure, the e-juice is a little sticky, but cleaning it up is so much easier than tidying up a sloppy shisha session.
And then there’s the ash. So much ash. Sometimes, with traditional hookahs, ash just build up to the point of no return. Have you ever had so much charcoal ash residue that you can’t even turn on a fan? Don’t be embarrassed to admit it–things like this happen when you’re just trying to enjoy yourself.
No charcoal means no charcoal ash, and no shisha means no shisha mess. And it gets better! Though you should still clean your hookah/vaping device on a regular basis, the individual hookah parts don’t get nearly as filthy. Tobacco build up is not a relevant concern when you’re sending water vapor through your smoking paraphernalia.
All right, you’ve made it to the number one reason why you should switch to an e-hookah. Are you ready for it? Here we go!
The number one reason you should switch to an e-hookah is…
Hookah charcoals fall, and they burn your carpet. They’ll burn your carpet regardless of how quickly you pick them back up. It’s a problem hookah fiends like us have had since the creation of carpets (and hookah).
Hookah carpet burns don’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter who you are or how careful you with your smoking apparatus. Sooner or later, someone (or something) is going to tap against your hookah and then–BAM! Just like that, your carpet is ruined.
Guess what e-hookahs don’t use? I’ve mentioned it who knows how many times already, but I’ll say it again anyway–E-hookahs don’t use coals! You will never…I repeat, NEVER…have to worry about burning your carpet if you’re using an e-hookah.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to progress, people, and leave your traditional shisha smoking ways to history books. We are living in an age where technology allows us to enjoy small pleasures from the past without having to deal with the heachaches of our grandparents.
For the best deals on e-hookah gear, I recommend giving Southsmoke a visit. They currently carry the Square E-Head, which is by and large the best e-hookah option currently available right now. These guys also offer the E-Head for the best price I can find–$100 (it retails for $150).
